What is nursing home neglect?

Nursing homes are required by law to provide the care a resident needs to maintain their physical, mental and psychosocial well being.  Neglect is the failure of a nursing home to provide needed care or treatment to a resident because of indifference, carelessness or inability due to staffing shortages.

What is nursing home abuse?

Nursing home abuse is either an intentional deprivation of care needed by a resident or any type of affirmative mental or physical violance against a nursing home resident.  Some examples of nursing home abuse include intentionally failing to provide a resident with food or water or a physical and physical violence against a resident such as physical assaut or sexual assault.
