David

David W. Terry

David Terry is a founding member of Nursing Home Justice Associates, LLC.  Since 2001, the primary focus of his legal career has been the pursuit of justice for those who have been victimized by the nursing home industry and in doing so has obtained millions of dollars in settlements for his clients.   David has been involved in cases against nursing homes and assisted living facilities in multiple states and regularly consults with attorneys throughout the United States on cases involving nursing home neglect and abuse.

David is nationally recognized speaker on legal issues involving  nursing home litigation and has regularly taught continuing legal education courses to other attorneys on how to pursue cases against nursing home companies.  He has also authored an article entitled Dirty Harry Takes on the Nursing Home Industry: Practical Advice from a Vigilante Hero.

David is a graduate of Wheaton College (B.A. Philosophy, 1987) and Drake University (Juris Doctor, 1994).  Before founding Nursing Home Justice Associates, LLC, David worked in small, medium and large law firms representing both plaintiffs and defendants and taught business law as an adjunct professor.  His experience in representing large corporations, insurance companies, hospitals and individuals has given him the background necessary to understand the medical aspects of nursing home care as well as the corporate financial strategies and incentives that govern many of the medical decisions at the facility level.  He is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in three states.*

In his free time, David enjoys reading, outdoor activities with his family and has worked with Water Missions International-Honduras in their effort to resolve the water crisis in Honduras.

*Currently licensed in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas.  Maryland Bar pending.

Michael Smith

Michael Paul Smith has been an active trial lawyer and member of the Maryland Bar since 1992. His practice has been concentrated on areas of complex civil litigation, including personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, and business litigation, all of which provide a valuable backdrop for nursing home litigation.

Michael Paul Smith has successfully obtained tens of millions of dollars in settlements and jury awards in his litigation career. His peers, opposing counsel and the judges before whom he has appeared have rated Mr. Smith with the highest reviews obtainable by an attorney for his abilities in the following categories:

Outside of his law practice, Mr. Smith is active in several charitable and community organizations and has been instrumental in numerous political campaigns. He successfully managed his father’s 2002 race for Baltimore County Executive and re-election in the 2006 and was a close advisor on the 2010 County Executive race and four of the successful Baltimore County Council candidates. Mr. Smith has also advised many current Delegates and County Council Members with respect to their campaigns. He also has been a key adviser to every Sitting Judges campaign in Baltimore County since 2001.

Sarah A. Zadrozny

Originally from Connecticut, Sarah established her Maryland roots in 2005 when she entered Loyola College (now Loyola University Maryland). She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2009 and graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law in May 2013. While in law school, she served as a judicial intern to Judge Robert Kershaw in the Baltimore City Circuit Court, Judge Kathleen Gallogly Cox in the Baltimore County Circuit Court, and also interned at the State’s Attorney’s Office for Baltimore City. She additionally served as a Teaching Assistant for two years, the Secretary of the UB Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association, and participated on the International Environmental Moot Court Team.

Sarah is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and Baltimore County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association.

 


 

 

Eugene A. “Rusty” Arbaugh, Jr.  (of counsel)

Rusty Arbaugh is a trial lawyer with significant experience in cases involving medical malpractice and personal injury litigation. Rusty has tried cases before judges and juries in both state and federal courts and taken hundreds of fact and expert depositions throughout the United States. He has substantial experience in matters involving general negligence claims.

One of Rusty’s strengths is analyzing and preparing legal cases with an eye toward expert witness involvement. His significant knowledge on medical terms and conditions helps with the development of medical strategy, discovery, factual case development, expert witness preparation and trial strategy.

Mr.  Arbaugh graduated from the University of Maryland Law School and was the recipient of two American Jurisprudence Awards (for highest grade in the law school) in Creditors’ Rights and Sales and Secured Transactions. Following law school, Mr. Arbaugh served as the law Clerk for Judge Alfred T. Truitt and Judge D. William Simpson in the Circuit Court of Maryland for Wicomico County.

In his spare time, Mr. Arbaugh coaches lacrosse, soccer and basketball for local youth travel teams. Mr. Arbaugh lives in Cockeysville Maryland with his wife, Michelle, and their three children.

 


Lauren M. Dodrill Headshot

Lauren M. Dodrill is a cum laude graduate of Franklin & Marshall College (B.A. Government, 2005) where she was a member of the Women’s Basketball Team. She attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, graduating cum laude with a concentration in Litigation & Advocacy (J.D., 2008). During law school, Ms. Dodrill was the Assistant Recent Developments Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Forum and a Rule 16 student attorney in the Civil Advocacy Clinic where she had the opportunity to represent low-income clients in housing and employment disputes.

After graduating from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Ms. Dodrill served as the Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Judith C. Ensor in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County (2008-2009). She is licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and is a member of the Maryland State and Baltimore County Bar Associations.  Ms. Dodrill is active member of her community, serving on the Alumnae Board of her high school alma mater and on the University of Baltimore Foundation Development Committee. She was also instrumental in the organization of the inaugural Maryland Moot Court Invitational Tournament for high school students throughout Maryland.  In recognition for her professional accomplishments and civic involvement, Ms. Dodrill was named to The Daily Record’s 20 in Their Twenties in 2012. In December 2012, Ms. Dodrill was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine in the publication’s annual list of top attorneys in Maryland for 2013.

Natalie Mayo is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School where she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society Executive Board and National Championship Competition Team.  She was also a judicial intern to Magistrate Michael A. Shipp in the District of New Jersey and a legal intern with the United States Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in both Political Science and Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  After graduating from Brooklyn Law School, Ms. Mayo gained valuable litigation experience working with the Baltimore City Public Defender’s Office through Brooklyn Law School’s Public Service Fellowship Program.

Ms. Mayo is licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland, and she is a member of the Maryland Bar Association. She concentrates her practice in litigation and has worked on several medical malpractice cases.  In addition to her law practice, Ms. Mayo is active in her community, serving as the Alumni Advisory Council Chairperson to the Johns Hopkins University Pi Beta Phi Chapter and is a USA swimming certified coach affiliated with a local age group swimming program.

Ms. Cornbrooks was born and raised in Maryland.  She graduated with her Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies in 2009 from Harford Community College. While attending Harford Community College, she was a legal intern at the  Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Bel Air, Maryland. Thereafter, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree of Sociology from Towson University in 2012. Ms. Cornbrooks has experience working litigation support in medical malpractice, wrongful death, and personal injury claims.
